Activities and Area Information

 

The Copper River Valley is filled with many exciting back-Berry picking in the Copper River Valley Alaska country activities such as river rafting, salmon fishing, hiking, birding, flight seeing, berry picking and more. We are near the border of the Wrangell St. Elias National Park and located only one mile from the Gulkana River (famous for salmon fishing). Enjoy the spectacular view of the Wrangell Mountains. Breathe in the clean air of rural Alaska. Watch for the local wildlife such as moose and fox.

Bird watching on the Gulkana RiverGakona has the wonderful historic Carriage House for great dining. Raft down the Gulkana River and/or fish for king salmon with a variety of well known fishing and rafting guides such as: King Fishers Perch, Gulkana River Ranch and River Wrangellers. Take a flight seeing tour from the Gulkana Airport with Copper Valley Air.

Located only 14 miles from Glennallen where you will find the Copper Valley Chamber of Commerce Visitor's Information Center, a great place for other tourist information. Glennallen also has three grocery stores (Omni Parks, Sparks' General Store and the Hub of Alaska) and gas stations.

Thirty miles south of our B & B, as you drive towards Valdez, you will find Wrangell St. Elias National Park Headquarters & Visitor Center. Here you can enjoy a leisurely one-mile walk along interpretive trail, browse through their bookstore, look at Alaskan displays, and watch an informative video about the Park. As you continue south, take the Old Richardson Highway (Loop Road) and enjoy historic Copper Center with a stop at the Fishing Widow coffee shop with Alaskan art for your gift buying and fix that ice cream craving at the same time. Be sure and eat at historic Copper Center Lodge (in operation since 1897) with some of the finest dining in the Valley, the George I. Ashby Memorial Museum to learn about the local history, and browse through more gift stores such as the Old Post Office Gallery (Gallery of Jean Rene, well known Alaskan artist) and Cabin Fever Crafters for a variety of local crafts, beaded jewelry and more…
